Since the Trump administration has refused to rule out sending ICE agents to polling locations in the upcoming midterm elections, Congress needs to pass legislation that 1) outlaws the deployment of ICE agents to voting areas; and 2) criminalizes voluntary appearance of ICE agents at polls in their official capacity. Election management is by law left to the states, and any law enforcement presence at the polls should be legislated to be 1) only as necessary to quell existing threats; 2) directed by state- and local-level officials; and 3) executed by law enforcement agents who are unmasked, identified by agency and name, and deployed to protect rather than intimidate voters.
