End Congressional Airport Privileges Immediately

To: Sen. Hickenlooper, Rep. DeGette, Sen. Bennet

From: A constituent in Denver, CO

March 24

I’m writing to you not with polite concern, but with deep frustration. At a time when Americans are standing in airport lines for hours while TSA agents work without pay due to a government shutdown you and your colleagues have historically been allowed to bypass that reality entirely. Escorted through terminals. Moved to the front. Shielded from the very systems you oversee. That is not public service. That is insulation from accountability. Let’s be clear about what this represents: while ordinary people are juggling rent, groceries, and rising costs, while federal workers are showing up without paychecks, elected officials have been able to skip the line literally and symbolically. Even Delta Air Lines, a private company, recognized how indefensible this is and suspended these privileges during the shutdown. That should be a wake-up call. When corporations are drawing a harder ethical line than Congress, something is fundamentally broken. You should experience exactly what the public experiences. The same delays. The same frustrations. The same system. Because if a system is failing the people, it should not be invisible to the people in power. I am demanding that you support and push for legislation that permanently eliminates all preferential airport treatment for members of Congress. Not temporarily. Not conditionally. Permanently. Public office is not a fast pass. It is a responsibility. And right now, the gap between those two ideas is too wide to ignore. I expect to see action, not statements on this issue.
