Texas should protect and strengthen successful public utilities rather than favoring policies that benefit for-profit monopoly utilities. Austin Energy and CPS Energy in San Antonio have demonstrated that publicly owned utilities can provide some of the lowest electric rates in Texas while maintaining reliable service. Unlike investor-owned utilities, they reinvest revenue into infrastructure, grid reliability, clean energy, and community programs. They also return millions of dollars to their cities each year, helping fund essential services that benefit residents beyond the utility itself. This model keeps more money in Texas communities instead of sending profits to outside shareholders. Publicly owned utilities are accountable to the communities they serve, not to investors seeking higher returns. I urge you to oppose legislation that weakens or disadvantages municipal utilities in favor of crony-driven, for-profit interests. Texas should support utility models that deliver affordable rates, invest in local infrastructure, and return value directly to the communities they serve.
