Vote against confirming Heidi Overton as FDA Commissioner. She has spent years spreading misinformation about vaccine safety, helped engineer the Trump administration's rollback of the childhood vaccine schedule, and falsely claimed that medication abortion is dangerous — despite its well-established safety record. The FDA reviews mifepristone's safety. Putting her in charge of that process is not a neutral decision. Even Sen. Bill Cassidy, a physician who chairs the committee overseeing her confirmation, has raised concerns that she lacks the managerial experience to run an 18,000-person agency already in crisis. If a Republican doctor on the relevant committee has doubts, those doubts deserve serious weight. The FDA needs scientific credibility, not ideological loyalty. Reject this nomination.
