ICE accountability: Uphold human rights, end draconian enforcement tactics

To: Sen. Alsobrooks, Rep. Elfreth, Sen. Van Hollen

From: A constituent in Laurel, MD

April 25

ICE must be held accountable for the ongoing human rights violations resulting from its indiscriminate enforcement tactics targeting law-abiding immigrants. ICE has become a draconian force operating with impunity, showing unapologetic cruelty by refusing to distinguish threats from non-threats. It is deporting people who have lived in the U.S. for decades, tearing families apart and spreading fear in immigrant communities through mass raids. This merciless approach stands in stark contrast to American values of justice and human dignity. ICE is destroying lives, seperating parents from children and deporting green card holders over decades-old minor offenses. It is denying due process to people who have established homes and livelihoods here. ICE's unchecked power has made it unaccountable, leading to countless abuses. We urge lawmakers to investigate ICE's practices, enact policies to increase oversight and transparency, and explore whether abolishing ICE and replacing it with a humane immigration enforcement system is necessary. Rampant human rights violations cannot be tolerated in a democratic society that values human rights and the rule of law.
