Federal Partnership With Christian Nationalist Violates the First Amendment

Tax dollars are funding government-sponsored Christian worship services across the United States. A man who has publicly declared “we want believers to be the ones writing the laws” has been handed a federal partnership to hold government-sanctioned revival events on public land — including at Mount Rushmore. This is a direct violation of the First Amendment. And it is happening right now. I am your constituent. I am asking you to stop it. Sean Feucht is not simply a worship leader. He is a self-described Christian nationalist who has explicitly stated his goal is for Christians to “overtake the government.” He has used the Proud Boys as personal security. He ran for Congress as a Republican. He has built a coalition of MAGA lawmakers inside the Capitol. He has declared, on the record: “We want God to be in control of everything. We want believers to be the ones writing the laws. Guilty as charged.” This is the man the Trump administration chose as a federal partner. HUD Secretary Scott Turner partnered with Feucht to hold a Christian worship service on the National Mall. Feucht then publicly announced that the U.S. government invited him to plan government-sponsored revival meetings across the nation — including a large-scale event at Mount Rushmore, organized in coordination with the federal America 250 anniversary team. The Freedom From Religion Foundation has filed FOIA requests with HUD, the Department of Education, and other federal agencies to determine exactly how much taxpayer money is funding these sectarian events. Legal action is being prepared. The government has no business funding any worship service — not Christian, not Jewish, not Muslim, not any. The First Amendment does not protect one religion. It protects all Americans from a government that picks religious winners and losers. The 250th anniversary of this nation belongs to every American regardless of faith — and it is being handed to a man who has said he wants Christians to be the only ones writing its laws. I am asking you to answer the following questions publicly and on the record: Do you believe that federally funded Christian worship services held on public land, organized by a man who openly advocates for Christian control of government, violate the First Amendment? Will you defund and terminate this federal partnership immediately — and will you demand a full accounting of every taxpayer dollar spent on it? If a Muslim, Jewish, or atheist organization received this same federal partnership, would your answer be different? Say so publicly. This is not a partisan question. It is a constitutional one. I am asking for a plain human answer within 10 days — both in a public statement and in a direct response to me as your constituent. Your answer — or your silence — will tell us everything we need to know. Respectfully,
