I am writing to demand a full, transparent investigation into the January 7, 2026 shooting death of Renee Nicole Macklin Good by an ICE officer in Minneapolis. The available video evidence contradicts the Trump administration's characterization of this incident, and accountability is essential. Macklin Good was a 37-year-old U.S. citizen, mother of three, and devoted Christian who had never been charged with anything beyond a traffic ticket. On the morning of January 7, she had just dropped her 6-year-old son at school and was driving home with her partner when they encountered ICE agents on a snowy Minneapolis street. Bystander video shows an ICE officer approaching her vehicle and grabbing the door handle. When she began to pull forward, a different officer standing in front of the vehicle immediately fired at least two shots into the vehicle at close range. The Trump administration has characterized Macklin Good as a domestic terrorist who attempted to ram federal agents. This description is contradicted by both the video evidence and those who knew her. Her ex-husband confirmed she was not an activist and had never participated in protests. Her mother, Donna Ganger, described her daughter to the Minnesota Star Tribune as "one of the kindest people I've ever known" who was "extremely compassionate" and had "taken care of people all her life." Macklin Good was a poet, writer, and stay-at-home mother who had previously worked as a dental assistant and at a credit union. The video evidence appears to show the use of deadly force in a situation that did not warrant it. Three children have lost their mother. I urge you to call for an independent investigation into this shooting, demand the release of all body camera footage and evidence, and ensure that the officer responsible is held accountable. Federal law enforcement officers must be subject to the same standards of accountability as any other law enforcement agency. This family and our community deserve answers and justice.
