As you are well aware, we are in the midst of a climate change crisis. Our federal government is in the hands of denialists and know-nothings who perversely oppose all measures to ameliorate climate change. “Drill baby drill” may as well be “kill baby kill” since that will be the result of continuing and accelerating our use of fossil fuels. I want to encourage you to continue and expand California’s efforts to fight climate change. Encourage the development of renewable energy sources. Explore new ideas—put solar panels over the water distribution canals! It could be a win/win by reducing evaporation of the water and providing lots of acreage for solar. Mandate solar installations over parking lots. Finance research into wave and tidal energy. We have to be the leader in this essential effort since the current administration seems to want to burn it all down.
