I am writing to demand that you exercise your authority to rein in ICE and put an end to the lawless and abusive conduct that is being reported daily. The stories emerging from courts, schools, homes, neighborhoods, and detention centers are disturbing, degrading, and fundamentally incompatible with the rule of law. No agency is above the law or Constitution. Detention without due process, inhumane treatment, family separation, and intimidation of communities are not “enforcement.” They are abuses of power. Congress has both the responsibility and the obligation to provide meaningful oversight, enforce existing legal limits, and hold officials accountable when those limits are violated. These actions also stand in direct opposition to basic Christian principles of human dignity, compassion, and justice. A nation that claims to value the sanctity of human life cannot tolerate cruelty carried out in its name. I expect you to act to restore lawful, humane immigration enforcement and to ensure that ICE is subject to real oversight and consequences.
