I am writing to urge you to support Senator Elizabeth Warren’s Accountable Capitalism Act. This proposed legislation represents a necessary step toward rebalancing our economy by ensuring that corporations serve not just their shareholders, but also their workers, customers, and communities.
For decades, corporate America has prioritized maximizing shareholder profits at the expense of workers, consumers, and the long-term health of the economy. The result has been an alarming concentration of wealth among the top 1% while workers’ wages stagnate, benefits erode, and economic inequality grows. The Accountable Capitalism Act addresses these issues by:
Requiring Worker Representation: By mandating that 40% of corporate boards be composed of workers, the bill ensures that those who contribute most to a company’s success have a say in critical decisions. This will foster fairer wages, better benefits, and safer working conditions.
Encouraging Long-Term Planning: Requiring large corporations to obtain federal charters would hold them accountable for decisions that impact the economy, environment, and society at large. This shift away from short-term profits would incentivize long-term investments in innovation, infrastructure, and employee well-being.
Restoring Balance to Capitalism: The bill revives the original principles of capitalism, where corporate prosperity was tied to reinvestment in workers and communities, rather than solely enriching shareholders and executives.
Passing this legislation would benefit workers across industries, reduce economic inequality, and create a more resilient economy that works for everyone—not just the wealthy few. It’s time to demand corporate accountability and to build a system that reflects the values of fairness, equity, and opportunity for all.
I urge you to support the Accountable Capitalism Act and advocate for its passage. Please let me know your stance on this legislation and the steps you plan to take to ensure its success. I look forward to your reply.
