I am writing to urge you to use your platform as governor to publicly demand the impeachment and removal of President Donald Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance from office. President Trump's recent $10 billion lawsuit against the IRS and Treasury Department reveals a troubling abuse of federal institutions for personal gain. While the lawsuit claims damages from the 2018 to 2020 leak of his tax information by former IRS contractor Charles Edward Littlejohn, it fundamentally misrepresents the role of government agencies. Littlejohn was convicted and sentenced to five years in prison in 2024 for his unauthorized disclosures, demonstrating that the justice system functioned appropriately. The Treasury Department has already taken corrective action by terminating contracts with Booz Allen Hamilton, the firm that employed Littlejohn, after Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent acknowledged the company failed to implement adequate safeguards. The lawsuit itself represents an unprecedented conflict of interest. A sitting president is suing the very agencies he oversees, seeking $10 billion in taxpayer funds while claiming the leak affected his support in the 2020 election. This action weaponizes the federal court system to extract public money for alleged political damages while simultaneously undermining public confidence in our tax administration system. The leaked information revealed that Trump paid no federal income tax for many years prior to 2020, information of clear public interest regarding a presidential candidate's financial dealings. Rather than addressing these substantive concerns, Trump is using his office to pursue personal financial remedies that would ultimately be paid by American taxpayers. This conduct demonstrates unfitness for office. I urge you to publicly call for impeachment proceedings and use your influence with other governors and state officials to build momentum for removal. The integrity of our federal institutions and the principle that no one is above the law demand immediate action.
