I am a proud Texan. I adore our beautiful state. Daylight Savings Time is crucial to the Lone Star State because we as Texans do not enjoy coming home from work and/or school in pitch black darkness. I am asking you to pass the Sunrise Protection Act because year-round daylight saving time reduces seasonal disruptions, cuts energy waste, lowers accident rates linked to time changes, and boosts evening economic activity. The mental and physical toll that not making Daylight Savings Time permanent is enormous. People who oppose this bill argue that children will end up going to school in the dark, especially if they walk to school or take the bus; however they fail to realize that our children will experience darkness whether or not this bill passes. Either this bill passes and children will go to school in the dark, but have more daylight for them when they leave school, or this bill fails and they end up coming home in pitch black darkness in the afternoon. We shouldn’t end Daylight Savings Time all because the people who oppose this bill can’t drive their own children to school or have them wait in a safe area for the school bus to arrive. Make Daylight Savings Time permanent! Change the clocks no more!
