Congress Is Weakening U.S. Security by Doing Nothing

To: Sen. Ricketts, Sen. Fischer, Rep. Flood

From: A constituent in Papillion, NE

January 20

Congress’s silence right now is actively harming U.S. national security. Unilateral military actions, sudden shifts in foreign policy, strained alliances, and the blurring of military and civilian authority all send the same message abroad: the United States is unpredictable and politically unrestrained. That’s not strength. That’s an invitation for adversaries to test us. America’s security depends on credibility, clear strategy, and constitutional checks on power. When Congress refuses to assert its war powers and oversight role, it signals disorder—to allies and enemies alike. History shows that’s how miscalculation, escalation, and unnecessary conflict begin. This is not about party loyalty. It’s about national survival. I expect you to: • Demand immediate oversight of recent military and security actions Reassert Congress’s authority over the use of force • Say publicly when actions are putting U.S. security at risk Delay makes the situation worse. Congress must act now.
