The treatment of President Zelenskyy by the United States is deeply concerning. As the democratically elected leader of Ukraine fighting against Russian aggression, he deserves our utmost respect and support. Senator Schmitt's dismissive comments downplaying Zelenskyy's valid criticism of former President Trump's actions are unacceptable. Trump consistently undermined Ukraine's security for his own political gain, emboldening Putin's invasion. We cannot let partisan allegiances blind us to Trump's dereliction of duty and betrayal of democratic values. Zelenskyy is risking his life defending freedom; the least we can do is heed his perspective on what meaningful assistance looks like. I urge you to forcefully condemn Schmitt's remarks and reaffirm our commitment to standing with Ukraine against authoritarianism and injustice.
