Constituent Request: Vote YES on H.R. 2550
To: Sen. Hawley, Rep. Cleaver, Sen. Schmitt
From: A verified voter in Kansas City, MO
December 11
I am writing to you as a constituent and a proud member of the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE). I am writing to urge you to vote YES on H.R. 2550, the “Protect America’s Workforce Act” and all procedural votes to advance the legislation. I am one of the more than one million federal employees whose collective bargaining rights were stripped away by President Trump’s Executive Orders. I come to work every day to serve the American public, and I take enormous pride in the contribution I make to our country. Whether it’s supporting veterans, keeping our borders secure, ensuring scientific integrity, protecting public health, caring for our nation’s most vulnerable, or any of the countless other missions federal workers carry out—I do this work because I believe deeply in public service. That is why these Executive Orders are so devastating. They are the most sweeping attack on federal workers in modern history, targeting employees across agencies that make up nearly 70% of the federal workforce. They eliminate rights that have been a foundation of the federal civil service for almost 150 years—rights that ensure we are hired and promoted based on merit, protected when we speak up about wrongdoing, and able to serve the American people without fear of political interference or retaliation. Collective bargaining doesn’t just protect federal workers—it protects the public. When we have a voice in our workplace, we can raise concerns about safety, staffing, training, and mission integrity. We can push back when political appointees attempt to force partisan agendas into nonpartisan public service. We can do our jobs the way Congress intended: fairly, professionally, and without fear or favor. If the Executive Orders remain in place, it will weaken the services Americans rely on every day. It will make it harder for me and my colleagues to carry out our mission, and it will undermine the trust that the public places in career civil servants. That is why I am asking you, as your constituent, to vote YES on H.R. 2550 giving the House the chance to restore collective bargaining rights through the Protect America’s Workforce Act. This vote is about protecting workers like me, but it is also about protecting the integrity and stability of the federal government itself. Thank you for your consideration and for standing with the federal workers who serve this country every day.
