As your constituent and a public school educator, I am writing to urge you to support Assembly Bill 155 (A.B. 155), which would make class size a mandatory subject of collective bargaining in Nevada.
Right now, class sizes in our schools are among the largest in the nation, and yet they remain a discretionary topic during contract negotiations. That means even when teachers raise concerns about overcrowded classrooms—which directly impact student learning and teacher retention—districts are under no obligation to engage in meaningful dialogue or solutions at the bargaining table.
A.B. 155 would change that. It recognizes that class size is not just a working condition—it’s a learning condition. Every additional student adds complexity, reduces individual attention, and increases the strain on limited classroom resources. Giving educators a voice in class size decisions is a necessary step toward building schools that are sustainable, equitable, and effective.
If we want to address Nevada’s teacher shortage, improve student outcomes, and show families that we are serious about investing in public education, then it’s time to treat class size with the seriousness it deserves.
Please vote yes on A.B. 155 and support a future where every student has a better chance to thrive.
