Measured approach needed for Stop Terror-Financing Act
To: Rep. Malliotakis
From: A verified voter in Brooklyn, NY
November 12
The proposed Act enables the Treasury Department to arbitrarily designate organizations as "terrorist supporting" based on meager evidence and strip them of tax-exempt status with no oversight or due process. It circumvents basic constitutional protections by allowing revocation of organizational rights without justification or recourse. This unchecked power could be wielded against dissenting voices or groups critical of the administration, from think tanks and civil liberties organizations to student groups, stifling free expression and political opposition. Safeguards must be implemented to prevent abuse and protect the fundamental rights enshrined in the Constitution.
