The drastic action outlined in your executive order to declare a crime emergency and federalize law enforcement in the District of Columbia is alarming and appears to be an overreach of federal authority. While public safety concerns are valid, stripping local control from DC's democratically-elected government sets a dangerous precedent that undermines home rule and could be abused for political purposes. There must be other solutions that uphold constitutional principles and the rights of DC residents to govern themselves. I urge you to reconsider this excessive federal intervention and instead work cooperatively with the mayor and city council to address crime through evidence-based policies that don't trample on democratic values. The nation's capital should model democratic ideals, not autocratic overreach.
