Oppose Operation Epic Fury and Support War Powers Resolution

To: Sen. Kelly, Rep. Ciscomani, Sen. Gallego

From: A constituent in Tucson, AZ

March 1

I am writing to urge you to reject Senator Fetterman's support for Operation Epic Fury and instead vote for Senator Tim Kaine's War Powers Resolution requiring congressional approval before further military action against Iran. The recent Senate vote of 47-53 demonstrates that this issue demands immediate attention, and I need you to stand firmly with those who believe Congress must reclaim its constitutional authority over declarations of war. The Trump administration's characterization of these strikes as preemptive action against imminent threats does not justify bypassing congressional oversight. This is precisely the type of executive overreach that the War Powers Act was designed to prevent. When Senator Fetterman declares his vote is "Operation Epic Fury" and praises President Trump for doing "what's right and necessary," he abandons the constitutional separation of powers that protects us from unchecked military escalation. The administration's claim that Iran could have acquired a nuclear bomb without these strikes requires congressional scrutiny, not blind acceptance. These are the exact justifications that demand debate, evidence, and authorization from the people's representatives before committing American military forces to action that could spiral into broader conflict. Senator Fetterman's previous support for Operation Midnight Hammer and his rejection of war powers restrictions in June show a pattern of deferring to executive authority that should concern every constituent regardless of party affiliation. I am asking you to take swift action by cosponsoring and voting for any War Powers Resolution that comes before Congress. Representative Thomas Massie has pledged to force a vote on this matter, and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries has correctly called for congressional action. The Constitution grants Congress alone the power to declare war. That authority must be defended now, firmly and clearly, before this administration commits us to military actions with consequences we cannot predict or control.
