Release detained Meriden high school student for graduation

To: Sen. Murphy, Rep. DeLauro, Sen. Blumenthal

From: A constituent in Milford, CT

June 8

The situation of a high school student being detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) just days before their graduation is highly concerning. This student has been working towards their academic goals and should be able to participate in the milestone of their graduation ceremony. Depriving them of this opportunity due to an immigration detention is unjust and detrimental to their educational journey. We urge you to intervene and facilitate the immediate release of this student from ICE custody. They have met all the requirements for graduation set by the Meriden Public Schools and should be able to receive their hard-earned diploma alongside their classmates. Keeping them detained not only robs them of this achievement but also disrupts their future prospects. Education is a fundamental right, and no student should face such barriers, especially when they are so close to completing their high school studies. This situation calls for compassion and understanding of the student's circumstances. We implore you to take swift action to ensure their release, allowing them to attend their graduation ceremony and continue pursuing their dreams without the looming threat of deportation.
