Your vote against the motion to discharge Sen. Warnock's war powers resolution was a failure of your constitutional duty. Congress — not the president — holds the power to authorize war, and that principle doesn't bend because the White House finds it inconvenient. Four Republicans found the courage to cross party lines and vote yes. You didn't.
The Trump administration is claiming the 60-day War Powers Resolution clock has a "pause button" — a legal theory so novel they won't even release it publicly. Meanwhile, the terms of a U.S.-Iran deal remain secret from Congress, despite the Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act requiring any nuclear-related agreement to be submitted for review before sanctions are lifted. Your constituents deserve to know what commitments are being made in their name.
This resolution has now failed eight times. Every time you vote no, you hand the executive branch more unchecked authority to drag this country into another war. Vote yes on the next opportunity to advance this resolution.
