I am writing to urge you to oppose H.R. 722 and all legislative efforts that restrict access to reproductive healthcare. This bill would grant legal rights to fertilized eggs, embryos, and fetuses, effectively banning abortion nationwide and overriding the will of voters in states that have chosen to protect reproductive rights.
The attacks on reproductive healthcare over the past several years have already produced measurable harm. Maternal mortality rates have increased, and patients have been denied life-saving emergency care. The Trump administration has compounded these dangers during its first 100 days by barring doctors from providing emergency abortions, slashing funding to community family planning clinics, and censoring scientific information about reproductive health. FDA head Marty Makary is now threatening to review the safety of mifepristone based on discredited research from a conservative think tank, ignoring decades of established medical evidence.
I also ask you to oppose H.R. 589, which would repeal the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act. The FACE Act is essential for ensuring that individuals can safely access reproductive healthcare without intimidation or violence. Repealing this protection would endanger patients and healthcare providers.
Additionally, the proposed "One Big Beautiful Act" would slash Planned Parenthood funding and eventually remove health insurance coverage from millions of Americans. These cuts will disproportionately harm low-income individuals and communities that already face barriers to healthcare access.
I urge you to take concrete action by demanding enforcement of the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act to ensure life-saving abortions are available in emergencies, reinstating Title X funding for family planning services, and restoring public access to ReproductiveRights.gov. Your constituents deserve representatives who will protect their bodily autonomy and access to essential healthcare. I ask you to stand firmly against these attacks on reproductive rights.
