Why Aren’t You Standing Up for the American People?

To: Sen. Hawley, Sen. Schmitt

From: A verified voter in Kansas City, MO

March 10

I am writing to ask you a very direct question: why are we at war, and why are you not doing more about it? The American people deserve clear answers. Many of us feel like decisions about war are being made without honest debate, without transparency, and without regard for the people who will ultimately bear the cost- our service members, our families, and our taxpayers. Congress has a constitutional responsibility to oversee and authorize war. Yet from the outside, it appears that responsibility is being ignored. Why are you not publicly demanding accountability, holding hearings, or explaining to your constituents why this conflict is necessary? Americans are struggling right now. People are worried about the economy, about stability, and about the safety of our country. The last thing we need is to be dragged into conflicts without clear justification and without our elected representatives standing up and asking the hard questions. So I want to know: • Why are we involved in this war? • What is the actual objective? • What is the plan to end it? • And why are you not fighting harder to represent the will and interests of the American people? Your duty is not to party leadership, lobbyists, or foreign interests. Your duty is to the people who elected you. If you care about being re-elected, then listen to your constituents and start acting like our voice matters. Leadership means asking difficult questions and standing up for the people you represent, especially when it is unpopular or politically inconvenient. The American people deserve answers.
