This Republican administration has usurped your congressional power

To: Sen. Cornyn, Rep. Van Duyne, Sen. Cruz

From: A constituent in Dallas, TX

January 4

Article I, Section 8, Clause 11 of the United States Constitution gives Congress the sole power to declare war, to authorize hostile actions, and to set the rules governing those actions. This Republican administration’s unilateral invasion of a foreign nation and removal of its leadership is an act of war. By attacking targets inside Venezuela, and removing President Maduro from office without congressional approval, this administration has usurped your power. Is Article I still valid? The inaction of you and your colleagues implies it is not. By not acting as a check on this Republican administration in this matter, Congress has implicitly repealed a significant portion of the Constitution. Allowing executive action to replace congressional authority is a direct violation of the Constitution you swore an oath to uphold. Is the legislative branch no longer a separate but equal branch of the government? My wife and I urge you to condemn this military action in the strongest terms. Take back your authority. Use your power. Defend the Constitution.
