As your constituent, I urge you to oppose the confirmations of Anna St. John, who has been nominated for the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana. St. John’s career has been marked by her attacks on consumer protection, diversity, and survivors of sexual assault and harassment. She has a history of putting her own biases above the law, and I strongly doubt that she would treat all people fairly in her court if she became a judge.
St. John has a long history of bias against class action lawsuits—even claiming that they function to help the “legal system fund… the Left”. Class actions are critical for consumers and workers who do not have the resources alone to seek justice from wealthy corporations. Additionally, after Trump v. CASA, St. John’s bias against class action suits will unfairly hinder efforts to protect civil rights and prevent abuses of power by the federal government.
Furthermore, St. John has worked to undermine survivors of sexual assault and harassment. For example, St. John testified against bipartisan legislation to invalidate forced arbitration clauses in cases involving sexual assault and harassment, effectively defending corporations’ ability to silence survivors. Even as survivors testified about their painful experiences, St. John testified to help corporations avoid accountability and protect individuals who commit sexual assault and harassment.
Finally, St. John has authored several amicus briefs that challenged civil rights protections for marginalized communities. She has opposed LGBTQI+ non-discrimination laws in places of public accommodation, attacked diversity efforts as discriminatory to end affirmative action in higher education, and advanced harmful sexist stereotypes to support discrimination against trans athletes.
Anna St. John’s ideological biases and record reflect a consistent preference for corporate interests at the expense of workers and civil rights, which raises serious concerns about whether she will be a fair and impartial federal judge. Therefore, I strongly urge you to oppose Anna St. John’s nomination to the Eastern District of Louisiana.
