An Open Letter

To: Rep. Gervin-Hawkins, Lt. Gov. Patrick, Sen. Menéndez, Gov. Abbott

From: A verified voter in San Antonio, TX

August 22

I urge you to oppose the use of the Texas National Guard and other state military resources as a substitute for civilian law enforcement when there is no clear evidence that these deployments improve public safety. Given the enormous cost of these deployments, Texans deserve transparency about their purpose, cost, and measurable results. Please demand evidence that any deployment of the National Guard is necessary, lawful, proportionate, and effective. Protecting Texans should mean investing in proven public-safety measures and respecting constitutional rights, including the right to peaceful protest, not using military resources for political theater. I urge you to provide meaningful oversight of National Guard deployments and to oppose unnecessary or politically motivated uses of military personnel in Texas.
