Stop Trump’s Out of Control War in Iran

To: Sen. Cornyn, Rep. Carter, Sen. Cruz

From: A constituent in Leander, TX

April 10

I am writing as a deeply alarmed and outraged American to demand that you immediately act to stop this reckless, unconstitutional war with Iran. This conflict is costing American lives, draining our economy, damaging our global standing, and placing our national security in greater danger—not strengthening it. Let’s be clear: this war was never properly authorized. Under Article I of the Constitution, the power to declare war rests with Congress—not the President. Yet you have allowed this administration to drag the United States into a prolonged and escalating conflict without meaningful oversight or accountability. That is a failure of duty. The situation on the ground is chaotic, contradictory, and dangerous. The so-called ceasefire announced by President Donald J. Trump collapsed almost immediately amid confusion and conflicting claims from U.S. officials and international partners. Even basic terms—such as whether Lebanon was included—were publicly disputed. Reports indicate the administration was scrambling behind the scenes to broker a deal, contradicting public claims that Iran was “begging” for peace. At the same time, administration officials are declaring “historic victory” while credible reporting shows Iran has emerged emboldened—retaining power, hardening its anti-Western stance, and gaining leverage over the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global shipping route. That reality has already inflicted damage on the U.S. economy and threatens far worse. Meanwhile, American service members are paying the price. The deadly March 1 attack in Kuwait—killing six and wounding many more—has raised serious concerns about leadership failures and the accuracy of information being provided to the public. Survivors themselves have disputed official claims, describing dangerously exposed conditions rather than secure defenses. This is unacceptable. Even now, the President’s own statements signal instability and escalation, threatening even greater violence if vague and shifting conditions are not met. There is no clear strategy, no consistent policy, and no credible path forward—only bluster, contradiction, and risk. This war has already put the United States in a weaker position than the diplomatic framework that previously existed under the 2015 nuclear agreement. That agreement—however imperfect—provided structure and restraint. What we have now is disorder, escalation, and a growing risk of wider regional war. And still, many of you refuse to act. Reports that members of Congress attempted to bring forward a war powers resolution—only to be blocked and ignored—are deeply disturbing. Refusing to debate, vote, or even acknowledge this crisis is not leadership. It is abdication. You must immediately: • Invoke the War Powers Resolution to end unauthorized hostilities. • Demand full transparency and accountability from the administration. • Reassert Congress’s constitutional authority over matters of war. • Refuse any further funding for this conflict without explicit authorization. The American people do not want this war. We do not benefit from it. We are the ones paying for it—with our lives, our economy, and our credibility on the world stage. History will remember whether you stood up in this moment—or whether you allowed chaos, illegality, and avoidable loss to continue. Do your job. Take back your power. End this war.
