Partisan Message on USDA AGRICOLA and Other Federal Websites

To: Sen. Hickenlooper, Sen. Bennet, Rep. Boebert

From: A constituent in Castle Rock, CO

October 11, 2025

I am writing to express my deep concern about a partisan message displayed on the USDA National Agricultural Library’s AGRICOLA website and other federal sites. The banner reads: “The Radical Left Democrats shut down the government... President Trump has made it clear he wants to keep the government open and support those who feed, fuel, and clothe the American people.” This statement is blatantly political and inappropriate for official, taxpayer-funded platforms. It violates the principle of neutrality that federal agencies are required to uphold and directly raises questions about potential Hatch Act violations. Federal resources cannot be used to promote partisan rhetoric or assign political blame, especially during a government shutdown that already causes hardship and confusion. As a graduate student of library and information studies, I rely on these websites for academic work. The banner cannot be dismissed and interferes with access to essential information. I urge you to immediately investigate who authorized this message, why it appears across multiple federal domains, and what actions will be taken to remove it and prevent future violations. Government websites must serve all Americans, not political agendas. Thank you for addressing this serious breach of professionalism and public trust.
