An Open Letter

To: Rep. Begich, Sen. Murkowski, Sen. Sullivan

From: A constituent in Anchorage, AK

June 2

I am writing as your constituent to urge you to ensure that Congress votes on Qatar's proposed $400 million Boeing 747-8 jet gift to President Trump before any official acceptance occurs. As you are aware, the Trump administration is reportedly preparing to accept this luxury aircraft from Qatar's royal family, which would serve as Air Force One during the presidency and then transfer to Trump's presidential library afterward. This arrangement raises serious constitutional concerns under the Foreign Emoluments Clause, which prohibits federal officials from accepting gifts from foreign governments without Congressional consent. The Constitution's Framers included the emoluments clause specifically to prevent foreign influence and corruption in our government. A $400 million gift from a foreign nation - potentially the largest such gift in U.S. history - demands Congressional oversight and approval. The precedent set by accepting such an enormous foreign gift without proper legislative review could undermine the constitutional safeguards our Founders established. I respectfully urge you to: 1. Demand that this matter come before Congress for a formal vote before any acceptance 2. Ensure full transparency about the terms and conditions of this proposed gift 3. Uphold your constitutional duty to provide oversight on foreign emoluments Alaska has always valued government accountability and adherence to constitutional principles. I trust you will stand firm in requiring Congressional approval for this unprecedented foreign gift.
