Investigate Delaney Hall and Oppose More ICE Detention Funding

To: Sen. Schiff, Sen. Padilla, Rep. Sherman

From: A constituent in Sherman Oaks, CA

May 28

Investigate the conditions at Delaney Hall detention facility in Newark, NJ, and use your platform to demand accountability. People detained there are reporting contaminated food, rancid water, and no access to health care. Detainees are on hunger strike. One person has already died under confusing circumstances in the facility's first year. Four people broke through walls to escape. These are not allegations — they are documented conditions happening right now under federal supervision. Over Memorial Day weekend, Members of Congress attempted to exercise their legal oversight authority at Delaney Hall. ICE pepper-sprayed them and blocked access to detainees. Senator Andy Kim was pepper-sprayed by a federal agency while doing his job. If Congress cannot access a federal detention facility, something is being hidden. Push for full access, launch a real investigation, and oppose any additional funding for ICE or Border Patrol until there is accountability for what is happening inside Delaney Hall.
