Demand Investigation of Federal Killings and Protection of Voting Rights

To: Sen. Cantwell, Rep. DelBene, Sen. Murray

From: A verified voter in Bothell, WA

January 29

I am writing to demand immediate action to stop the escalating federal violence and protect our constitutional rights. Two American citizens, Renee Good and Alex Pretti, were shot and killed by federal agents, yet Attorney General Pam Bondi and the Department of Justice refuse to investigate these deaths. A judge has already ordered DOJ officers not to destroy evidence related to Pretti's shooting. This is unconscionable. Judge Patrick J. Schiltz of the U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota identified 96 court orders that ICE violated in 74 cases in January 2026 alone. He stated that ICE has likely violated more court orders in January 2026 than some federal agencies have violated in their entire existence, and warned that ICE is not a law unto itself. When federal agencies operate above the law and kill citizens without accountability, we have abandoned the rule of law entirely. Four Democratic House Judiciary Committee members, Jamie Raskin of Maryland, Pramila Jayapal of Washington, Mary Gay Scanlon of Pennsylvania, and Lucy McBath of Georgia, have demanded documents and information about these killings by February 2. The DOJ was created in 1870 to enforce civil rights, not to cover up civil rights violations. The situation has grown more alarming as these enforcement actions are now tied directly to voter suppression. Hours after killing Alex Pretti, Bondi wrote to Minnesota Governor Tim Walz demanding access to state voter rolls. Since May 2025, the Trump administration has demanded complete voter rolls from at least 44 states and DC, suing 24 jurisdictions when they refused. The FBI even executed a search warrant at the Fulton County, Georgia elections warehouse to seize ballots from the 2020 presidential election, breaking the chain of custody. Public opinion reflects growing alarm. Trump's approval rating has dropped to 39.2%, support for his immigration policies has fallen 18 points to negative 10, and support for abolishing ICE has reached 46%. I urge you to support independent investigations into these federal killings, demand accountability for ICE's contempt of court orders, and protect state election systems from federal interference. Our democracy depends on it.
