As your constituent, I am writing to urge you to oppose HR 655, which seeks to transfer 150 acres of the Mount Hood National Forest to the City of The Dalles.
The "Dog River Reservoir" expansion facilitated by this bill is a thinly veiled attempt to secure public water resources for Google’s expanding data centers. By moving this land out of federal jurisdiction, the bill avoids the rigorous environmental scrutiny required for projects on National Forest land. This sets a reckless precedent: that public land is for sale to the highest bidder or the most influential corporation.
Our National Forests provide critical habitat, clean drinking water, and recreation for millions of Oregonians. They should not be used as a private utility for a $2 trillion company. I ask that you stand with conservationists and local residents by blocking this land transfer in the Senate.
Please protect the integrity of the Mount Hood National Forest and ensure that our public resources remain in public hands.
