In 2024, lobbyists spent $4.4 billion to influence Congress and federal agencies. Currently, over 350 former Congress members work as lobbyists.
Some earn over five times their former salaries — others earn millions — to use their connections and pressure Congress to deliver legislation that benefits the special interests of their clients, on everything from corporate tax rates to healthcare. I urge you to vote for the Close the Revolving Door Act, which would create a lifetime ban on congressmembers from becoming lobbyists, and restrict the hiring of former lobbyists into government. Lobbying is nothing more than legal bribery, and Congress should be held to higher standards than that.
