Challenge executive overreach undermining congressional budgetary authority
To: Sen. Capito, Sen. Justice, Rep. Miller
From: A constituent in Fayetteville, WV
February 12, 2025
This executive order represents an overreach of executive power that undermines Congress's constitutional authority over budgeting and appropriations. Implementing arbitrary hiring ratios and forcing large-scale reductions in force without congressional approval violates separation of powers principles. The order also targets vital government functions like diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives without justification. Such sweeping workforce changes demand comprehensive study and public input which this unilateral action circumvents. The order's provisions run counter to effective governance and undermine the civil service's nonpartisan expertise. I urge you to challenge this order through all available means to uphold Congress's power of the purse and prevent disruptions to essential government services that millions of Americans, including those in rural areas, rely upon as the layoffs will disproportionately impact federal employees serving these communities.
