I am writing to you as a concemed constituent to express my strong support for legislation that protects and codifies the rights of transgender and gender non-conforming individuals in Illinois. As you know, illinois has been a leader in l advocating for civil rights, and I urge you to continue this legacy by supporting measures that ensure equal protections for the trans community. Transgender individuals face significant discrimination in employment, housing, healthcare, and public accommodations. Codifying trans rights into state law is a necessary step to provide legal l protections that prevent discrimination, guarantee access to affiring healtheare, and ugheld the dignity of every individual regardless of gender identity. l ask you to champion policies that include: 1. Prohibiting Discrimination: Enforce non-discrimination protections in employment, housing, education, and public spaces, explicitly including gender identity and expression. 2. Protecting Access to Healthcare: Ensure that trans individuals have access to gender affirming healthcare, including hormone therapy and gender-affirming surgeries, without undue barriers
or discrimination. 3. Ensuring Safe Public Spaces: Protect the rights of trans individuals to use public facilities that align with their genderidentity, preventing harassment and exclusion. 4. Affirming Trans Youth Rights: Safeguard the rights of trans youth, including their ability to access supportive environments and necessary medical care, white preventing harmful legislation that restricts these rights. 5. Legal Documentation: Provide pathways for Illinois to provide necessary documentation for individuals fleeing states that don’t support Trans rights like reissuing new birth certificates with corrected gender markings. I believe that illinois can and should serve as a model for inclusive legislation, l especially at a time when trans rights are under attack in many parts of the country. By codifying thape protections, we can ensure that every resident of Illinois is treated with the faimess and respect they deserve, free from discrimination and prejudice.
