Today, the House voted to claw back money Congress already allocated for PBS and NPR, rehashing old, settled business to strip funding from children’s educational programs and rural radio stations that are not served by commercial alternatives.
These petty efforts rob our children of valuable educational foundations, providing kindergarten readiness to children and eliminate a needed source of local news coverage for rural communities that often lack any other area coverage.
This political axe grinding to attack the current president’s perceived enemies does not serve Americans, who thrive when Congressionally allocated monies are promises made and promises kept, and where a diversity of voices fill our airwaves.
Shame on the House.
I hope the Senate proves to be made or sterner stuff, and that it honors promises made by its members in the last Congressional session.
