Under Mayor Michelle Wu and Governor Maura Healey, Boston’s public safety has deteriorated due to ideologically driven policies that prioritize sanctuary protections and lax enforcement over resident security. Wu’s administration has staunchly defended Boston’s “Trust Act,” limiting police cooperation with ICE, even as federal officials warn of criminal releases into communities. This has shielded undocumented immigrants convicted of serious crimes, contributing to a perception of unchecked lawlessness. Critics highlight Wu’s failure at Mass and Cass, an open-air drug market where spillover violence, including stabbings and mob attacks, plagues neighborhoods despite promises of reform. Police morale has plummeted amid understaffing and DEI-focused bonuses, while a Level 3 sex offender was hired for parks work, exposing children to risk.
Healey’s tenure has compounded issues statewide, with over $1 billion spent on migrant shelters lacking proper background checks, leading to reported rapes and assaults. Her refusal to involve state police in deportations has drawn fire for enabling criminal migrants to remain. 59 Despite overall Massachusetts crime dropping 6.5% in 2024, Boston’s homicides doubled by mid-2025, signaling a reversal. Gang activity, moped crimes, and shoplifting surge as resources divert to illegal aliens.
Boston isn’t safer because Wu and Healey’s progressive stance fosters impunity, eroding trust in law enforcement and inflating taxpayer burdens without tangible safety gains. Residents demand accountability, welcoming federal intervention to restore order.
