Support Federal Workers and Protect Collective Bargaining Rights
To: Sen. Schmitt, Sen. Hawley
From: A verified voter in Kansas City, MO
June 10
I am writing to urge you to support legislation that protects the collective bargaining rights of federal employees and to oppose efforts to strip those rights away through executive action.
Recent actions affecting federal unions have created significant uncertainty for hundreds of thousands of public servants, including civilian employees at the Department of Defense and other federal agencies. Collective bargaining is not a special privilege. It is a fundamental workplace protection that helps ensure fairness, accountability, safe working conditions, and a professional civil service.
Federal employees dedicate their careers to serving the American people. They defend our nation, care for veterans, administer Social Security benefits, support disaster response, protect public health, and perform countless other essential functions. These workers deserve a voice in their workplaces and the ability to advocate for fair treatment without fear of political retaliation.
Congress has an important role in protecting the merit-based civil service and ensuring that workers’ rights are respected. I urge you to support legislative efforts that restore and preserve collective bargaining rights for federal employees, including those affected by recent executive orders. Congress should not allow decades of established labor protections to be dismantled.
Strong unions help create a stronger workforce, improve morale, reduce turnover, and encourage collaboration between employees and management. When federal workers are treated fairly, taxpayers benefit from a more effective and efficient government.
I ask that you publicly support federal employee unions, oppose attempts to weaken collective bargaining rights, and vote for legislation that protects the rights of the federal workforce.
Thank you for your time and your service to our district. I look forward to seeing you stand with federal employees and the unions that represent them.
