I am writing today to urge you to inquire to the FDA about why they are delaying the release of the latest Novavax COVID vaccine. In early July Novavax applied for approval with the vaccine ready to rollout. This came at the perfect time as we are in one of the biggest surges of COVID ever. Last year my child started in public school. Before I could get the Fall booster, while dropping him off one day, unmasked staff members wanted to talk to me and inadvertently came close to my face without social distancing. What that began was 5 months of being significantly ill with repeat infections, that all started with catching COVID in my child’s public school. I masked from my child, unable to kiss him or eat at the same table with him for those 5 months. I was sick over and over while trying to make the holidays joyous for my child. I chopped down a Christmas tree while sick. I am a single mother, and my insurance cost me over $900 a month while my doctors searched to find out how exactly Covid had disabled me for life. Now I find out that for this school year, while everyone around me falls ill, I could have protected myself with a Novavax shot before my child even started school last week, but the FDA is artificially delaying the release of this critical vaccine in favor of mRNA alternatives. This puts me in danger. Does my government and my party want me to live a life where I mask from my child to stay healthy, in order for him to go to public school? You tell me the vaccines protect me, but then hold back those same vaccines? Urge the FDA to release the Novavax vaccine now. Stop playing games with people’s lives if you expect me to support your party in November.
