Repeal unjust Alien Enemies Act, uphold civil liberties.

To: Rep. Peters, Sen. Schiff, Sen. Padilla

From: A constituent in San Marcos, CA

February 14, 2025

I am writing to urge your support in repealing the outdated and unjust Alien Enemies Act. This law, enacted in 1798, allows the president to apprehend, restrain, and deport any non-citizen deemed a threat during a declared war. It is a relic of a bygone era and has no place in a modern society that values human rights and due process. The Alien Enemies Act is a stain on our nation's commitment to liberty and justice for all. It grants sweeping powers to the executive branch without judicial oversight, violating fundamental principles of checks and balances. No person, regardless of immigration status, should be subject to arbitrary detention or deportation without fair legal proceedings. Repealing this archaic law would align us with international human rights standards and reaffirm our dedication to civil liberties. It would send a powerful message that the United States upholds the rights of all individuals within its borders, citizen or not. I implore you to support the repeal of the Alien Enemies Act and take a decisive step towards a more just and equitable society. This law has no place in a nation that prides itself on being a beacon of freedom and democracy. Let us move forward and leave this disgraceful relic of the past behind.
