I’m writing as your constituent to urge you to strongly oppose any effort to send U.S. citizens—especially political dissidents or those accused of crimes—to prison labor camps in El Salvador, as has been reportedly proposed by Donald Trump and his allies. Such a policy would be a blatant violation of the U.S. Constitution, particularly the right to due process under the Fifth and Fourteenth Amendments. No American should be stripped of their rights, removed from U.S. soil, and subjected to forced labor in a foreign country—especially under an authoritarian regime like that of President Nayib Bukele. These camps in El Salvador, where inmates are exploited and abused, are nothing short of modern-day concentration camps. To forcibly send Americans there would not only be morally indefensible—it would be historically shameful. This proposal is a dangerous escalation in the erosion of civil liberties and sets a terrifying precedent that could be used against political opponents, immigrants, or any group a future administration seeks to punish. It fundamentally contradicts the values of a free and democratic society. I ask you to publicly denounce this proposal and do everything in your power to prevent it from ever becoming policy. Congress must act now to protect the rights and freedoms of all Americans.
Thank you for your attention to this urgent matter.
