Urgent Concerns Regarding the Nomination of Paul Ingrassia
To: Sen. Cornyn
From: A constituent in San Antonio, TX
May 30
Both Dear Senator,
I am writing to express my strong opposition to the nomination of Paul Ingrassia as head of the U.S. Office of Special Counsel. I urge you to carefully consider the serious concerns raised by his documented associations with individuals and groups known for antisemitic extremism, as highlighted in recent reporting by NPR.
The Office of Special Counsel is entrusted with safeguarding government ethics, enforcing the Hatch Act, and protecting whistleblowers. This position demands unimpeachable integrity and a demonstrated commitment to upholding the values of equality and justice. Unfortunately, Mr. Ingrassia’s record raises significant red flags:
Associations with Antisemitic Extremists: Mr. Ingrassia has attended rallies supporting known white nationalist Nick Fuentes and publicly criticized organizations for distancing themselves from such figures. He has also advocated for lifting bans on individuals promoting hate speech.
Support for Individuals with Antisemitic Histories: He has worked as part of the legal team for Andrew Tate, a figure with a documented record of antisemitic and misogynistic statements, and has publicly praised him.
Questionable Social Media Commentary: Mr. Ingrassia’s own statements about Israel and other sensitive topics have drawn concern from both Jewish civil rights organizations and conservative commentators.
Lack of Substantial Legal Experience: Unlike previous nominees, Mr. Ingrassia’s legal career is brief, with less than a year as a licensed attorney, raising further questions about his qualifications for this critical role.
The Anti-Defamation League and the American Jewish Committee have both voiced their opposition to this nomination, warning that it undermines ongoing efforts to combat antisemitism at a time when such vigilance is desperately needed.
Given the gravity of the Office of Special Counsel’s mission, I urge you to reject this nomination and call for a candidate whose record reflects the ethical standards and commitment to justice that this position requires.
Thank you for your attention to this urgent matter.
