Denounce Elon Musk's Attack on Judicial Authority
To: V.P. Vance
From: A constituent in Houston, TX
March 31
I am writing to urge you to speak out against Elon Musk's dangerous anti-constitutional rhetoric and to advise President Trump to sever his administration's ties with Mr. Musk. At a recent rally, Mr. Musk stated: "Any federal judge can stop any action by the president. This is insane. This has got to stop. It has got to stop at the federal level at the state level." This statement is a direct attack on our system of checks and balances. This is not merely a misunderstanding—it is a deliberate attempt to undermine the judiciary's essential role in our government and elevate the presidency beyond the constraints established by our founders. Our nation's founders deliberately established three branches of government to prevent any single branch from becoming too powerful. The judiciary's authority to review executive actions isn't a flaw in our system—it's a feature specifically designed to protect the American people from potential overreach. As Vice President, you have sworn an oath to "support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic." This oath requires you to act when our constitutional principles are threatened, regardless of personal or political relationships. I implore you to: 1) Publicly condemn Mr. Musk's statements as contrary to our constitutional system 2) Privately counsel President Trump on the dangers of associating with individuals who advocate undermining judicial authority 3) Use your unique position as both President of the Senate and a trusted advisor to the President to advocate for maintaining proper constitutional boundaries and respect for the separation of powers Mr. Musk's statement clearly demonstrates he should have no role whatsoever in advising our government. Someone who so brazenly advocates for dismantling constitutional safeguards cannot be trusted with influence over public policy. The actions I am calling for transcend partisan politics—they are about preserving the constitutional framework that has sustained our country for over two centuries. Your position as Vice President gives you both the platform and the responsibility to be a voice for constitutional principles within the administration. Throughout American history, Vice Presidents have often served as crucial advocates for constitutional restraint within administrations. I ask you to honor this tradition by placing our country's foundational principles above any personal relationships or political convenience. I look forward to seeing you fulfill this essential aspect of your constitutional duty.
