Call to end Gaza blockade and Israel's aid obstruction
To: V.P. Harris
From: A constituent in McKinney, TX
September 17
Over 11 months, we have reached shocking levels of conflict, displacement, disease, and hunger in Gaza due to Israel's systematic obstruction of aid. According to 15 aid agencies, including Oxfam and Save the Children, 83% of required food aid does not make it into Gaza, up from 34% in 2023. This reduction means people in Gaza have gone from having an average of two meals a day to just one meal every other day, driving a humanitarian disaster with nearly half a million at risk of starvation. The aid agencies demand an immediate ceasefire, an arms embargo on Israel, and an end to the occupation of Palestinian territory as recommended by the International Court of Justice. Israel's siege of Gaza has restricted aid entry to a record low of just 69 aid trucks per day in August 2024, down from 500 trucks prior to its latest offensive in October 2023. This systematic obstruction of lifesaving food, medicine, fuel and other essentials amid intensifying military attacks is unacceptable and must end. The international community must heed these calls and apply meaningful pressure to stop arming Israel and lift the illegal blockade to allow unfettered humanitarian access to Gaza.
