My Marine Mom Matters.

Petition to Save the Veterans Health Administration To: The President of the United States, Members of Congress, and the Department of Veterans Affairs We, the undersigned, call upon our leaders to protect and strengthen the Veterans Health Administration (VHA), ensuring that our nation’s veterans receive the quality care they have earned and deserve. This issue is deeply personal to me. My mother served as a Marine, dedicating her life to defending this country. She, like so many others, answered the call to serve, sacrificing comfort and safety to protect our freedoms. Our veterans gave their best for us—it is only right that we give them the best in return. The VHA is more than just a healthcare system; it is a lifeline for those who have borne the weight of service. It provides specialized care for conditions that only veterans face, from combat injuries to PTSD and Agent Orange exposure. However, increasing privatization, budget cuts, and resource shortages threaten the integrity of this system, putting veterans at risk of receiving inadequate or delayed care. We believe: 1. The VHA should remain a fully funded, publicly operated healthcare system that prioritizes veterans’ well-being over corporate profits. 2. Privatization undermines the quality and accessibility of care by diverting funds from VHA facilities to for-profit providers, often at higher costs and with lower accountability. 3. Veterans deserve timely, specialized, and comprehensive healthcare that only a well-supported VHA can provide, including mental health services, suicide prevention programs, and treatment for service-related conditions. 4. Congress must fully fund and expand VHA services to meet the growing demand for care, modernize facilities, and ensure sufficient staffing to provide high-quality treatment. The VHA has been a leader in medical innovation, research, and veteran-focused care. Dismantling or weakening it would be a disservice to those who have already given so much to our country. We demand that our leaders: • Reject policies that push veterans into privatized healthcare at the expense of the VHA. • Increase funding to improve and expand VHA services and facilities. • Protect VA hospitals and clinics from closure or downsizing. • Address staffing shortages to ensure timely and effective care for all veterans. My mother, and all those who have worn the uniform, deserve a system that honors their service with the care they need. This is not just policy—it’s a promise. We urge Congress and the Administration to take immediate action to preserve and strengthen the Veterans Health Administration.
