I saw you, Senators, dodge your tariff responsibilities under Article I section 8 of The Constitution. Do your job, or next election I’m voting for someone who will.
In Section 8 the founding fathers specifically delegated to you:
“to lay and collect taxes, duties, imposts and excises”
Congress has the trade power. Congress also has the war power. So surely our founding fathers would want Congress to take control of a trade war.
Because of you our economy faces a very uncertain future. The stock market thrives on a certain future, but we haven’t had that recently as a result of changing tariff policies. Republicans got elected because the People thought they would be good for the economy. Instead, stock markets have been a roller coaster and businesses and consumers are struggling to keep up.
Republicans include those formerly affiliated with the Tea Party, named after our protest of tariffs as a tax, demanding no taxation without representation. The people are left unrepresented when Congress fails to do their job. Under Article I, section 8, you should have drawn the line at a trade war. Obviously you disagree. Where will you draw the line?
Congress, do your job under Article I of The Constitution of the United States of America, or you can rest assured I’m voting for someone who will.
