I am writing again to urge your support for freeing Kilmar Abrego Garcia from El Salvador’s CECOT prison, as the Supreme Court ordered.
The Fifth Amendment is clear that every “person” in the United States is entitled, by law, to due process before losing “life, liberty, or property.” This administration purposely denied Mr. Abrego Garcia that due process prior to his being sent to an overseas prison where the US has no legal jurisdiction.
This is a flagrant violation of the US Constitution, and America’s rule of law it underpins.
Sending people "beyond Seas to be tried for pretended offences" is one of the grievances against King George III enumerated in the Declaration of Independence.
This Republican administration abducted an innocent man. Not legally arrested or charged. Abducted. Without consequences.
Now we discover the US government is paying El Salvador to keep innocent people prisoners, including Mr. Abrego Garcia, in brutal conditions.
Did Congress appropriate funds for this? Did you vote to fund this?
Congress has the power to stop this travesty. But will you and your colleagues do so?
My wife and I urge you to support the Supreme Court’s unanimous decision to bring Mr. Abrego Garcia back to the US expeditiously and demand this administration comply with the Constitution. Kilmar Abrego Garcia must be freed.
