The TSA announced travelers without a REAL ID compliant ID will be charged $45 to pass through security starting in February. This really seems predatory at this moment when it’s dangerous to cooperate with the federal government and people with REAL IDs are being detained by DHS regardless - at best it’s another poverty tax and at worst a bid to increase (unlawful) deportations even further. Isn’t it already the law that you need REAL ID to fly anyway?
