Condemn SCOTUS Decision Enabling Racial Gerrymandering in Texas

To: Rep. Joyce, Sen. Husted, Sen. Moreno

From: A constituent in Willoughby, OH

November 22

I am writing to express my outrage over the Supreme Court's recent decision to temporarily reinstate the Texas Republicans' redrawn congressional map. This map, previously blocked by a federal court due to clear evidence of racial gerrymandering, represents a blatant attempt to disenfranchise minority voters and manipulate the outcome of the 2026 midterm elections. The lower court's ruling to bar Texas from using this new map was based on solid evidence of racial discrimination. By issuing an administrative stay, the Supreme Court is enabling a flagrant violation of voting rights and democratic principles. This action not only undermines the integrity of our electoral process but also sets a dangerous precedent for future redistricting efforts nationwide. The timing of this decision is particularly alarming, as it impacts the upcoming filing deadline for candidates in Texas ahead of the March primary. This creates unnecessary confusion and instability in the electoral process, potentially discouraging candidates from minority communities from running for office. I urge you to take immediate and decisive action to protect voting rights and ensure fair representation. Specifically, I demand that you: Publicly condemn the Supreme Court's decision and call for an immediate reversal that upholds the lower court's ruling. Introduce or support emergency legislation that strengthens protections against racial gerrymandering and ensures independent oversight of redistricting processes. Advocate forcefully for the use of the previous 2021 map, as ordered by the federal judges, which better reflects the diverse demographics of Texas. The integrity of our democracy is at stake. We cannot allow corrupt judicial decisions to override the fundamental rights of minority voters. I implore you to act swiftly and decisively on this matter before the Supreme Court makes its final decision. The voices of all Texans, regardless of race or ethnicity, must be heard and respected in our electoral system. Failure to address this issue is tantamount to complicity in the erosion of our democratic values.
