Trump’s Attempted Insurrection Demands Accountability

To: Sen. Cornyn, Rep. Carter, Sen. Cruz

From: A constituent in Leander, TX

January 4

According to sworn testimony and evidence presented by Special Counsel Jack Smith, Donald Trump knowingly attempted to overturn a lawful election and incite an insurrection against the United States. That is not rhetoric. That is not opinion. That is an attack on the Constitution you swore an oath to defend. If any other American—civilian or official—had done what Trump did, they would already be in prison. The only reason this man continues to evade accountability is cowardice and political calculation inside this very building. The facts are clear. The evidence is overwhelming. The intent was explicit. Trump did not merely “question” an election—he attempted to subvert it, pressure officials to violate the law, and unleash violence to retain power. That is the definition of insurrection. And yet Congress hesitates. You are not spectators. You are not commentators. You are not campaign operatives. You are the co-equal branch of government charged with defending the Republic when the Executive threatens it. Failure to act is not neutrality—it is complicity. History will not be kind to inaction. Democracies do not collapse all at once; they rot when leaders refuse to enforce the law against the powerful. If Congress cannot or will not act when a President attempts to overthrow the government, then the Constitution is meaningless words on paper. Do your job. Enforce the law. Defend the Constitution. Hold Donald Trump accountable—now. No more delays. No more excuses. No more hiding behind procedure while the rule of law burns. The American people are watching. History is recording. And your silence will be remembered.
